Why I'm running

Getting my hands dirty.

Volunteering with Edible Schoolyard NYC brought me a community I didn't know I needed. But the reason I keep showing up is simpler: every kid in New York City deserves to know where their food comes from and have the resources to act on that knowledge.

ESY makes that happen, in school gardens, in kitchens, in classrooms, building the skills kids need to contribute to a healthier, more sustainable food system for all of us.

That's a place where children, schools, and communities can truly flourish. I'm running the NYC Marathon for it. Help me bring more kids into the garden.

About ESY NYC

Small seeds, big impact.

Edible Schoolyard NYC is a nonprofit on a mission to make edible education accessible to every child in New York City. They build garden-and-kitchen classrooms inside public schools — where kids plant, cook, and share meals together, and where lessons on science, culture, and community come from the soil up.

Where your dollars go

Every gift is a season of something growing.

Every dollar goes directly to ESY programs. Here's exactly what your gift makes possible.

Mile 1 · The Start
$26.20

Stock a kitchen classroom for a day.

Covers the hands-on supplies one class needs to cook together — measuring cups, mixing bowls, and the small tools kids wear out fastest.

Mile 6 · Brooklyn
$52.40

Feed one class a meal they made themselves.

Covers all the ingredients for a full recipe tasting — fresh produce, pantry staples, and any proteins — so every student goes home having cooked and eaten something real.

Mile 13 · Halfway
$131

Plant a garden bed that lasts all season.

Funds the bulbs, seedlings, and starter plants for one raised bed — enough for a full spring-to-fall growing cycle that students tend, harvest, and bring to the kitchen.

Mile 26.2 · Finish
$262

Power a farm stand for two weeks.

Stocks a school farm stand for two full weeks — fresh produce ordered and restocked twice, so students practice selling, pricing, and sharing what they grew with the whole community.

So many problems are tied together, and they could all be solved by having a school garden.
